At EPCOR, safety matters most. We are proud to offer an opportunity for an experienced and passionate Senior Advisor, Health & Safety to join our Water Services HSE team in Edmonton.

In this influential role, you’ll help champion a strong, resilient safety culture by supporting teams in managing operational risk, strengthening H&S performance, and meeting regulatory and organizational requirements.

 

You’ll collaborate with leaders and frontline employees, act as a trusted advisor, and contribute to continuous improvement across our safety programs.

What You’ll Do

 

As a Senior H&S Advisor, you will:

 

  • Provide expert guidance to leaders and employees in applying the EPCOR Health & Safety Management System.
  • Lead and participate in workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, contractor management activities, and public safety initiatives.
  • Support the development and delivery of H&S training, ensuring teams understand their responsibilities and can confidently meet compliance expectations.
  • Interpret and communicate relevant legislation, standards, and internal policies for operational teams and H&S Committees.
  • Develop and track H&S performance metrics, analyze trends, and recommend improvements to reduce risk.
  • Contribute to the design, review, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs, procedures, and materials.
  • Mentor and support Advisors and collaborate across HSE, Shared Services, and Technical Training areas.
  • Build strong working relationships with external partners and industry peers to identify best practices and emerging trends.
  • Coach and influence leaders to foster a positive, resilient safety culture.

What You Bring

 

Education & Credentials

  • Post-secondary education in Health & Safety or Environmental/Occupational Hygiene (Certificate/Diploma/Degree).
  • A professional designation such as CRSP, CRST, or CSP—or active progress toward one.

Experience

  • Typically 5–8 years supporting or leading H&S programs, tools, and processes.
  • Experience with incident investigations, causal analysis, and risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as COR and ISO 45001.
  • Strong working knowledge of Alberta’s OHS legislation and industry standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

Assets

  • Experience in utilities, construction, or trades environments.
  • Prior operational or trades experience.

Developmental Pathway

In these cases:

  • The role may be temporarily scoped at an Advisor level or adjusted based on current qualifications.
  • A structured development plan will be established to support progression into the full Senior Advisor scope once requirements are met.

This ensures everyone can succeed—safely and supported.


Additional Requirements

 

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and ability to obtain/maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit (up to 6 demerits).
  • A 5year commercial driver abstract will be required.
  • Ability to work in varied weather conditions when operational support is needed.
  • Clearance on standard EPCOR background checks.

Work Environment

 

This is a full-time professional role (Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week) within a highperformance HSE team dedicated to collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional service.

  • A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)

Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law.   • A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
  • Prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file.
